When it coms to the salvation of man, God is always the one doing the work. God does the rescuing. God does the redeeming. God is the one who forgives. But then in the midst of God’s grace that he gives, he decides to give this message to a people.
"Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." - 2 Corinthians 5:20-21
God rescues.
And he gives rescued people a mission.
Which begs the question… was God the worst missiologist ever?
This term, missiologist, might sound strange to you depending, but the “Christianeze" term is really meant suggest a person who studies mission. Just as a theologian, is someone who studies theology. A missiologist is one who studies mission.
And based on what God does, I cannot help but come to the conclusion that God isn’t very good at missiology. Because if I were God, my Gospel multiplication strategy would not be giving people like you and me the most important message in the world. That’s a terrible idea.
If God was a pastor, most of our churches would run him out the doors… because it’s a crazy idea to give ordinary people like you and me such a life-changing message. And on top of that it is a message we are prone to forget and are prone to rebel against.
But instead, the God who wants to give his gifts of grace, mercy, peace, and hope to the world decides he needs a people to do so. And he uses ordinary people in their homes, neighborhoods, communities, workplaces, and schools to serve their neighbors and share the message of the Gospel.
"For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption” - 1 Corinthians 1:26-30
God gives his people a mission. He rescues people and sends them out. He forgives them and sets them free to love their neighbor. He shows himself and asks us to speak about, “What we have seen and heard."
